FAQ

Questions for Dawn

Hi there. I'm looking at you.

I want cake.

Do you practice what you preach?

I try to. My books evolve out of research and personal experience. When I put their ideas into practice, life works better. But I’m prone to fits and starts like anyone else. I’m a gifted backslider. I console myself with the conviction that every step has value; not the just those that move me forward. Every step helps me awaken.

Why do you have so many pictures of you on the website?

It’s not my preference, believe me. But as a speaker and writer, I essentially market myself. Useability research says that web visitors much prefer “real” photos to overly polished poses. So here I am, warts and all. Keep in mind that when I do presentations, I clean up well.

Why do you write only Busy People books?

I write lots of things. The Busy People books are best known at this point. My other books have been more technical. I’ve also written magazine articles, web content, fiction and nonfiction, and done a bit with Hollywood (my 15 minutes of fame, woo-hoo).

Did you host the Spam Cam?

Ah yes, our infamous family science project. The fetid memory never dies.

What are you working on right now?

  • I’m busy with a coaching and seminar series through the executive coaching firm, Einblau & Associates in Vancouver, BC. The series is entitled The Science of Productivity: Practical Applications in the Workplace. I typically craft customized, in-house sessions with targeted follow-up. Check the Publicity page to see more topics.
  • I’m a licensed facilitator for the Strength Deployment Inventory, one of the most practical, applicable tools for improving team and personal communication, especially during conflict. The SDI rocks.
  • I teach computer and writing classes at Whatcom Community College I also do contract teaching for Western WA University.
  • I’m very active in the online universe. It’s a great way to share information and support my clients.

Do you have any favorite charities?

I donate at least ten percent of my writing income to charity. My goal is to donate lots more.

Will you read my manuscript?

Sorry, no time. If you have a completed manuscript, congratulations. Send it to an agent. I do, however, coach writers for a fee.

What does a writing coach do?

I help writers at various levels of project development, contracting one month at a time. I encourage them, problem solve, and provide a solid context for setting deliverable goals via email, phone and/or skype. Editorial help is extra. People call me when they are in a rut, have lost their drive, need help organizing and jumpstarting their work, or need to get over a hump. If you want to know more, email me: dg@dawngroves.com.

Do you give workshops or talks?

Indeed I do. Here are some sample topics. I’m amenable to speaking at conferences, health spas, ski resorts, or anywhere tropical. I enjoy places with big sparkly pools. I’m also very interested in visiting Iceland so if you Icelanders need a keynote, I’m your gal.

When will your next blog post come out?

I try to post weekly, often more than that. I’m also a regular Tweeter. Feel free to follow me; I tweet about behavior change, energy management, blogging, and web design, all with an eye on efficiency. I’m pretty picky so you won’t be inundated.
